Medical Network Resource Guide – Section 5

     How to find a provider

Quick steps to finding a provider

To help manage your costs, it’s important that you use providers and facilities that are in the health system network or in-network for our medical plans.

This is the quick reference guide for the detailed step-by-step instructions for using the tools provided by Blue Cross Blue Shield. There are three ways:

  • Download My Health Toolkit app.
    • Select “Find Care” in the bottom right corner.
  • Visit MyHealthToolkitKC.com.
    • Click “Find a Doctor.”
  • Call Blue Cross Blue Shield Customer Service at 833-468-3590.

To find information about facilities and providers in the health system, use the resources below, then double-check providers in the BCBS find-a-doctor tool to ensure they are in the health system network.

Step-by-step: Find a health system or in-network provider

With or without a BCBS log-in, you can use their find-a-doctor tool to look up your current providers or find providers who are in the health system network or in-network.

Below are instructions for using the tool without a log-in. If the provider/facility you are searching for is not on the health system or in-network list, they are out-of-network.

  1. Go to MyHealthToolkitKC.com.
  2. Click Find a Doctor under the Find Care tab.
  3. Click the “Enter Card ID” button in the pop-up.
  4. To see our plans’ networks without logging in, scroll down to the three empty boxes and type in the letters U S K. If you are a member, you can proceed this way or click log in and provide your credentials.
  5. After you enter U S K, click Go. You should see the Blue Select Plus under network. You can adjust the city, state or zip as needed.
  6. Enter a provider name or search by specialty. The providers will be sorted by “tier.” Blue Cross Blue Shield does not display a separate list for the health system network. Instead, health system network providers will be listed first and will be labeled as “Health System Tier.”
  7. All other providers listed that do not say “Health System Tier” in the right column are in-network providers. Out-of-network providers will not appear on the list at all.

Finding a primary care provider

Just as patients turn to us for their healthcare needs, you need a partner to help ensure your best health. All employees are encouraged to have a primary care provider for expert help, guidance on health issues, making diagnoses, prescribing and managing medications, and managing ongoing conditions.

The health system offers a match-making service, available only to employees and their dependents, to find a primary care provider who is part of the health system, thereby ensuring lower cost for you. The service will help you find providers in:

  • Family medicine
  • General internal medicine
  • Pediatrics

Our expert call center staff is available to help you find primary care providers for you and your dependents. To get help:

Primary care in the Kansas City metro area

The Centrus Health Kansas City network provides access to primary care, internal medicine and pediatrics at a variety of locations in the Kansas City metro area. This network allows access to these providers at the health system network cost for a primary care office visit. Signature Plan members will pay the $20 health system network copay; members of the HSA Advantage Plan will pay the health system network coinsurance of 10% after they meet their deductible.

Please keep in mind there is the potential for greater member costs for labs or X-rays ordered by one of these providers. Services or care received with a specialist at one of these locations will be at greater cost to the member as this would fall into a higher cost network tier.

To find a primary care, internal medicine or pediatrician provider in the Centrus network, please visit CentrusHealth.com/Find-a-Provider.
